Artificial intelligence and recruitment: a systematic review of research by authors affiliated with Moroccan institutions following prisma 2020, with critical appraisal using the MMAT
Keywords:
Artificial intelligence; algorithmic recruitment; algorithmic fairness; local validity; narrative synthesis; MoroccoAbstract
This systematic review analyzes AI and recruitment research produced by teams with at least one Moroccan institutional affiliation. It distinguishes author affiliation, data provenance, and the scope of the evidence. Three questions guide the synthesis: which technologies and recruitment stages are studied, which settings and methods are used, and what conclusions the findings support. Scopus and Web of Science exports dated 13 October 2026 contain 319 records. Deduplication yields 246 unique records; 18 publications with available full texts form the analytical corpus. Narrative synthesis combines dominant recruitment stage, research design, and evidence register. Thirteen publications are technical studies (72.2%), three are quantitative surveys (16.7%), one is qualitative, and one is conceptual (5.6% each). Four primarily address extraction, four classification, five matching or selection, and five adoption or governance. Twelve report quantitative technical performance, while six explicitly document Moroccan data or observations. None provides a comparative evaluation of organizational outcomes after deployment. The contribution connects technical performance, local validity, and human or organizational consequences. The research agenda prioritizes multilingual validation, procedural justice and human oversight, and longitudinal assessment of hiring quality and fairness.
