Abstract

The emergence of Industry 4.0 marks a major turning point in the way organizations design, manage, and optimize their supply chains. Driven by the integration of advanced digital technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain, and robotics, Industry 4.0 is emerging as a key performance driver for the modern supply chain. This article offers an in-depth descriptive literature review, highlighting the direct and multidimensional impacts of these technologies on logistics performance. Through a rigorous thematic analysis based on evaluated academic sources, the study identifies and synthesizes theoretical and empirical contributions around several key performance axes: visibility and traceability, forecasting and planning, automation and efficiency, agility and resilience, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. The results indicate that I4.0 technologies promote real-time data exchange, the development of predictive capabilities, agile responses to disruptions, and increased customer focus, all of which enhance the resilience, efficiency, and responsiveness of supply chains. However, the literature also highlights a lack of robust empirical validation and still limited sector coverage. The article concludes by proposing avenues for future research, particularly through cross-sector comparisons, longitudinal studies, and the exploration of socio-organizational factors that determine the success of digital transformation. This review thus contributes to enriching academic understanding of the subject while providing relevant benchmarks for decision-makers engaged in the digital transformation of their supply chain.
