Abstract

This article aims to analyze the evolution of scientific output regarding management control in the age of New Public Management (NPM) between 2015 and 2025, examining the key actors, foundations, and themes that structure the research field.

It presents a bibliometric study based on a corpus of 946 scientific articles retrieved from Scopus, the exported bibliometric data were analyzed using VOSviewer and the Biblioshiny interface of the Bibliometrix software.

The results indicate sustained growth in scientific output and show that the field remains grounded in the foundational works of NPM, management control, and institutional theory, while simultaneously embracing new themes such as public value creation and digitalization. Furthermore, the study reveals a lack of representation regarding African contexts and the MENA region.

The article thus contributes to the literature by providing an updated and integrated bibliometric mapping of the interface between NPM and management control over the 2015-2025 period, while highlighting the field’s main research dynamics and areas that remain underexplored.
