The development of mobile money represents a major innovation that promotes financial inclusion in developing countries. However, despite the high penetration of mobile telephony in Côte d’Ivoire, a significant proportion of the population still does not use these services. Whilst previous research has mainly focused on the adoption of mobile money, few studies have analysed the factors determining its actual non-use in the Ivorian context. This research therefore aims to identify the factors explaining this phenomenon. To this end, a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design was employed. A qualitative phase, based on semi-structured interviews with ten consumers and analysed using thematic content analysis, identified the main factors contributing to non-use. A quantitative phase was then conducted with 500 individuals, and the data were analysed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression.
The results show that complexity of use (β = 0.284; p < 0.05) and transaction security risks (β = 0.317; p < 0.01) significantly contribute to the non-use of mobile money. Educational attainment and the requirement to present identification also emerge as significant determinants. his research therefore aims to identify the factors explaining this phenomenon. to this end, a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design was employed. A qualitative phase, f. This study contributes to the literature on mobile financial innovations and makes recommendations for simplifying access procedures, strengthening transaction security and promoting financial inclusion.
