Economic Intelligence and Corporate Financial Performance: A Systematic Literature Review
Keywords:
Competitive Intelligence, Financial Performance, Systematic Literature ReviewAbstract
This systematic literature review synthesizes empirical and theoretical findings establishing the link between competitive intelligence (CI) and corporate financial performance. Based on the analysis of forty empirical studies, this review concludes that there is a strong empirical consensus confirming a positive and statistically significant relationship between the adoption of competitive intelligence practices and the improvement of organizations' financial performance.
The findings indicate that CI's impact on performance operates through several complementary mechanisms, including enhanced strategic decision-making, identification of business opportunities, and rapid adaptation to environmental changes. Furthermore, certain mediating variables, such as entrepreneurial orientation and organizational absorptive capacity, significantly amplify this impact.
This review also identifies important gaps in the current literature, notably the lack of longitudinal studies, the limited standardization of performance measures, and the restricted geographical and sectoral coverage. The proposed recommendations aim to guide future research endeavors and provide practical guidance for managers and public policymakers.
