The impact of the use of artificial intelligence on the evolution of management control practices: the case of Moroccan companies
Keywords:
Artificial intelligence; management control practices ; interactive vision; Conceptual frameworkAbstract
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors has catalysed profound transformations in management control practices. This study examines and explores the multifaceted impact of AI on these practices, highlighting how advanced technologies are redefining traditional approaches and fostering the emergence of more modern practices. Indeed, the implementation of AI in management accounting enables management accountants to refocus their attention on more strategic, high-value-added activities. It also helps to speed up the reporting process whilst enhancing it through the integration of non-financial data. Furthermore, AI improves planning, budgeting and performance management processes.
The aim of this study is to develop an in-depth understanding of the impact of AI on the evolution of management control practices. Our methodology follows a qualitative, documentary-based approach. An in-depth review of the scientific literature enabled us to develop a conceptual model. The independent variable, namely the use of AI, is measured across five dimensions: big data analytics (BDA), blockchain, cloud computing, deep learning and robotic process automation (RPA). As for the dependent variable (the evolution of management control) it is examined through five dimensions: financial reporting, performance analysis, dashboards, budgeting and planning processes, as well as cost accounting practices and the use of interactive management control.
This work is, at this stage, purely theoretical in nature. However, an empirical study will soon be conducted to further explore the effect of AI usage on the evolution of management control practices within Moroccan companies.
