Developing a Culture of Innovation in Traditional Enterprises: Obstacles, Strategies, and Success Cases

Abstract

This study analyzes how traditional companies can develop a sustainable culture of innovation by overcoming structural, cultural and operational barriersA qualitative approach based on a multiple case methodology is adopted, focusing on two emblematic companies - LEGO and BBVA - selected through theoretical sampling. Data are triangulated from secondary sources, testimonies and in-depth documentary analysis.

The analysis reveals that co-creation with customers, digital transformation, and the structuring of multidisciplinary teams are essential levers for embedding innovation in organizational culture. This work contributes to the dynamic capabilities literature by proposing an integrative framework articulating transformational leadership, open innovation, and dynamic capabilities applied to large established companies undergoing transformation.
