he effects of urbanization on CO2 emissions in Mali
Keywords:
Urbanization, CO₂, Mali, ARDL, growth, trade opennessAbstract
This study investigates the impact of urbanization on CO₂ emissions in Mali from 2000 to 2024 (25 observations), incorporating economic growth and trade openness. Using an ARDL error correction model, results show that urbanization increases emissions in the short run but reduces them in the long run, while GDP and trade openness continuously raise emissions. These findings confirm the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) effect of urbanization and suggest promoting sustainable cities, investing in renewable energy, and integrating environmental concerns into economic and trade policies.
