Distance learning management systems and student satisfaction at FSE: the case of the Google Classroom platform

Abstract

With the advent of technology and the increasing practicality of resources, higher education has become a global phenomenon. Like its students, each higher education institution has its own specific characteristics and challenges. However, it is anticipated that by 2030, around 380 million students will be enrolled in higher education worldwide. (Shanganlall, 2024). Despite this, educational institutions need to ensure that they are in a better position to meet end-user expectations and remain competitive in an era of rapid and profound change. Student Information Systems (SIS), designed to optimize the student experience in education, are proving to be instrumental solutions in overcoming these obstacles. Commonly referred to by the acronym SIS, they are designed as software developed to manage student data and improve administrative processes within higher education institutions and universities. On this basis, the aim of this work is to highlight the crucial role that distance-learning platforms such as SISs play in student satisfaction with distance learning. The research design incorporates the deductive method and the positivist paradigm. It is also the result of an empirical study carried out among 200 FSE students who use the Google Classroom platform to identify, based on their experiences, the importance of using ICTs as an urgent solution to remedy the decision to stop courses taken by the Moroccan government in the COVID-19 era. We conducted a questionnaire survey to achieve this goal. Our results are significant and demonstrate the success of the Google Classroom platform. Now that these efforts have been made, it would be wise to put forward innovative teaching solutions to facilitate the learning process while maintaining a critical perspective.
