Abstract

In a global context marked by the energy transition, this study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on energy efficiency in Morocco. Using an ARDL/ECM model applied to annual data from 2000 to 2022, we assess the influence of two AI proxies—namely the number of patents filed and the public budget allocated to scientific research and innovation—on energy intensity. The findings reveal that AI-driven innovation significantly improves energy efficiency in the short term, while the effect of public funding appears to be delayed and more complex. Additional factors such as economic growth and CO2 emissions are also incorporated into the analysis. The study offers concrete recommendations for sustainable energy policy centered on technological innovation.
