The CSR approach in the Moroccan environment, between opportunity and threat
Abstract
For more than two decades, Morocco has initiated various reforms that have an impact on the spread of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and awareness of issues related to sustainable development. Taking into account all the reforms implemented by the State, one could have anticipated an implicit diffusion of CSR encouraged by State institutions and public sector actors. However, an analysis of corporate practices reveals a discrepancy between this implicit approach and corporate actions, which are often voluntary, arbitrary, and overt. For many people today, CSR initiatives are limited to recognition such as labels and certifications. However, many companies excel in this area and commit themselves without necessarily following a formal CSR approach. Our contribution aims to provide an overview of CSR in the Moroccan context by identifying the main stakeholders and highlighting the practices adopted by the country's companies. Ultimately, we will seek to determine whether CSR represents an opportunity or a threat for Moroccan companies.
