Institutional Governance, Human Development, and Social Welfare

Despite growing scholarly interest in sustainable governance, contemporary research remains deeply fragmented across isolated disciplinary silos—namely public administration, public health, ecological economics, and urban planning—creating a critical knowledge gap regarding the unified mechanisms through which state capacity converts institutional inputs into multi-dimensional human well-being.

To address this synthesis gap, this study addresses a central research question: How do state effectiveness, institutional quality, and public capacity systematically interact to drive human development expansion and multi-dimensional social well-being across global research trajectories?

Analyzing a global corpus of 1,265 peer-reviewed articles extracted from Scopus, this paper delineates how public capacity, state effectiveness, and institutional quality shape multi-dimensional quality of life and sustainable development outcomes. Demonstrating a robust annual growth rate of 18.59% and an average citation impact of 23.46 citations per document, the quantitative bibliometric analysis reveals a paradigm shift from traditional income-centric economic evaluation toward integrated socio-ecological governance, where inclusive institutional frameworks serve as foundational drivers for equitable social welfare and human capabilities expansion. Structural domain analysis reveals four predominant thematic pillars: urban governance, human-centric public health interventions, ecosystem services management, and global policy alignment through the Sustainable Development Goals. This paper synthesizes these trajectories to propose an integrated operational framework for institutional design.
