Motivations and obstacles of the individual towards blood donation in Morocco: case of the eastern region
Abstract
The shortage of blood donation and the increase in the demand for blood is a major problem in the field of health. Finding ways to recruit and retain donors is a priority, and therefore an important area of research.
This article aims to answer the question : “ What are the factors motivating and hindering the act of blood donation ? ”. To do this, we try to understand the behavior of individuals vis-à-vis blood donation on the basis of their perceptions of the latter, their motivations and obstacles to doing or redoing this act as well as on the basis of their expectations in order to adapt this act and make it a culture.
We conducted an exploratory qualitative study with 20 Moroccans. The results show that several factors influence the act of donation in the population surveyed, motivating factors : the rewards of different types that donors receive after making a donation, the positive attitude that individuals have in general donation and especially on blood donation.. And brakes factors : the proximity of the collection points and the timing of the centers, the rumors cirvuling around the subject of blood donation …
The results show that if individuals are well motivated, if they manage to overcome their obstacles, and also if they are satisfied with their blood donation experiences, this will lead to establishing a relationship of trust and commitment between the two actors.
Keywords: Blood donation, behavior, motivations and barriers, perceptions and expectations.
