Social and solidarity economy organizations and local development: A Systematic Literature Review Using the PRISMA Method
Abstract
In the current context, the social/solidarity-based economy constitutes a field of practices and representations whose demarcation constitutes in itself a major issue. Local development and the social economy have been debated since the 1970s and 1980s. Indeed, the social/solidarity-based economy and local development are two closely related concepts, as the social/solidarity-based economy contributes significantly to local development by proposing innovative solutions and involving local actors in the implementation of development policies. In this sense, the social/solidarity-based economy can be a vector of local development, but it is still necessary to know how to implement its potential.
In this article, we are interested in the link between social and solidarity economy organizations and the dynamics of local socio-economic development. The approach used is the PRISMA Statement method with a bibliographic coupling. In this respect, we analyzed the content of 506 publications between the period 2000 - 2022. However, our methodology is based on a double analysis: a descriptive analysis of 40 articles and a thematic analysis of 13 articles. The visualization of scientific landscapes is based on the Nvivo software. The results of our review show the contingent character of the relationship. Indeed, the theoretical approaches and the empirical models subject of our analysis justify the factors contributing to the explanation of the link between the social and solidarity economy and local development.
In summary, the article presents a state of the art of what exists and a general and robust review of the key concepts of our study. Finally, this research work recommends future research perspectives and a roadmap for research on the social solidarity economy.
