Sustainable tourism, forms and indicators: The case of the tourist territory Heading North (destination of Tangier)
Abstract
The involvement of tourism stakeholders is a prerequisite for the success of sustainable tourism strategies. Partnerships between private and public stakeholders make it possible to develop tourism that respects environmental, economic and socio-cultural requirements.
This article attempts to identify indicators for measuring the sustainability of tourism based on operational realities, so that a toolbox of indicators can be designed to provide public decision-makers with an interactionist diagnosis of the stakeholders involved in tourism in the Moroccan destination of Tangier.
Our qualitative study is based on varied and non-representative samples, and respondents are asked to express themselves freely, each using their own vocabulary and logic. Data collection is based on interview guides given to the various stakeholders in the tourist destination of Tangier. We conducted interviews following the principle of saturation, stopping data collection when the latest observations no longer provided new information.
The indicators used in this data analysis are those that lie below the intersection of the cumulative rising curve and the 80% threshold.
The Pareto diagram enables us to identify the most significant indicators selected by 80% or more of the stakeholders interviewed.
The results of this field survey will be presented in this article in order to answer the various questions posed above, as well as the assessment and analysis of the sustainability measurement indicators used or proposed by these stakeholders.
In addition, we will propose a decision-support tool for evaluating the tourism sustainability score, which we will present in the results and discussions.
