Abstract

In the contemporary era, cities face complex and multifaceted challenges, stemming from a combination of factors such as rapid population growth, increased urbanization, and environmental pressures. Among these major challenges are the devastating effects of climate change, the depletion of essential natural resources, and the need to address the growing needs of urban populations.

The main research question addressed in this context is the identification of contemporary urban challenges and the proposal of innovative solutions to address them, with a particular focus on the smart city governance model.

The methodology adopted in this analysis is primarily narrative and conceptual, exploring current trends in urban governance and examining how smart cities can offer sustainable solutions to contemporary urban challenges.

The main theoretical conclusions of this study highlight the increasing importance of the smart city governance model in addressing urban challenges. It explores the various theories underlying this model, highlighting both divergences and convergences among them. Additionally, it underscores how smart city initiatives can contribute to improving environmental sustainability, quality of life for citizens, and the efficiency of urban operations.

The main theoretical limitations identified in this analysis concern the lack of in-depth empirical research on the effectiveness of smart city initiatives in different urban contexts. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for further critical reflection on the social and ethical implications of implementing these initiatives.

In summary, this study offers an analysis of contemporary urban challenges and innovative solutions provided by the smart city governance model. While it highlights the potential benefits of this model, it also emphasizes the need for ongoing research and reflection to maximize its effectiveness and impact in various urban contexts.
