Green job creation scenarios in the framework of the green economy: Case of Morocco

Keywords: Green economy, sustainable development, green jobs, decent jobs, job destruction

Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe the link between the adoption of a Moroccan development model based on the green economy option and the emergence and creation of green jobs. Indeed, the green economy aims to increase income and employment, while enhancing energy efficiency and preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems for current and future generations. In an era of increasing environmental risks, current growth models marked by resource shortages, job losses and economic insecurity are under threat.

Will the adoption of this development model based on the green economy accelerate the job creation process or will it destroy existing jobs? We will try to answer this question through the construction of a multisectoral Input-Output model integrating the modeling of value added by sector according to a CES (Constant Elasticity of Substitution) by constituting a set of equations, some of which represent accounting balances and behavioral functions of certain economic aggregates to measure the impact of investments in the green economy by the year 2040.

Indeed, according to the results of the model, the impact on the creation of green jobs would be positive in several sectors, this wave of creation will also be accompanied by a wave of destruction of part of the current jobs. Thus, several actions can be taken to support the transition to a green economy by encouraging and developing eco-activities and innovation.
