Post-Covid in Morocco: A way out of the crisis towards a structural economic transformation
Abstract
The COVID-19 crisis has had a severe impact on the whole world since its appearance in 2020. A crisis that soon turned into an economic crisis that required an intervention of all countries and demanded a flexibility of systems in order to overcome the situation of instability and uncertainty. As in other countries, the health crisis did not spare Morocco. The latter has experienced economic and social damage that has resulted in the collapse of turnover of some companies reaching up to 100%, which has led to brutal closures and has caused several activities to fold and worsened the social situation in Morocco. Faced with this worrying situation, the state mobilized to contain the spread of this crisis on its activities and to preserve itself against the change and uncertainty of the environment by instituting sanitary and economic measures in order to keep the country stable. However, this crisis has led to a structural change in the country by rethinking new strategies and managerial practices and redefining government priorities to turn this crisis into an opportunity and accelerate the structural transformation in Morocco. Indeed, we can conclude that the pandemic has allowed Morocco to move to innovative solutions as a driver of structural economic transformation, ensuring the continuity of public services, national education, encouraging scientific research and the knowledge economy. It is in this context that Morocco should act carefully to reduce the severity of its pandemic impact on economic and social activity.
Our paper will be based on a descriptive approach by presenting the economic and social consequences of the health crisis caused by COVID as well as a wide range of recovery measures taken by the state in order to adapt to the changes produced by the pandemic and to find the way to accelerate its economic structural transformation.
