How Do TQM Practices Affect Knowledge Sharing?
Abstract
Previous studies have reported mixed and ambiguous results in the relationship between total quality management (TQM) practices and knowledge sharing. This paper is intended to examine the effect of TQM practices on knowledge sharing. We used a qualitative methodology in this study to get as clear a picture as possible of the problem. We therefore carried out semi-directive interviews studies in twelve companies of various sizes and different sectors of activity (Metallurgy, agri-food, banking, automotive, cosmetics and luxury) using an interview guide to collect qualitative data. This study showed that different quality practices significantly affect knowledge sharing. The results revealed that the main obstacles facing companies in Morocco were employee engagement, dominance in sharing explicit knowledge of tastes, differences in experience levels, lack of leadership and managerial guidance to clearly communicate the benefits and values of knowledge-sharing practices, lack of formal and informal spaces to share, reflect and generate new knowledge.
It is recommended that companies continue to implement TQM practices with all variables to improve performance. Companies should then develop engagement, commitment, employee awareness to share their knowledge, improve the company's system and provide efficient resources to overcome barriers to effective implementation of TQM practices.
